Next Limit have sponsored a university project to launch a stratospheric probe balloon, the aim of which was to "see the sunrise from space" (at an altitude of 40Km). The project was devised by C.H.A.S.A. (Chaminade Space Agency), a group of students at the Colegio Mayor Chaminade University in Madrid.
To make this mission a little different, the probe was equipped with 5 HD cameras- four in a horizontal position and one vertical. The team wanted to be the first to capture a 360º panorama of a sunrise from above.
The balloon was launched on 22nd May at 5:12am, in order to be in place at 6am for the first rays. The balloon reached an altitude of 30km and the mission was a great success - despite almost losing the probe altogether on its homeward journey!
