IS CARONTEFX ONLY USEFUL FOR CUTSCENES?
Incredible cutscenes aside, CaronteFX is also useful in interactive mode when introducing game events. For example, when a missile reaches a tower it triggers the animation of the tower collapsing, an animation that had been previously baked. Another example could be a car passing over a landmine, triggering the animation of the previously baked car explosion.
This is a frequently used technique in AAA games to make them truly spectacular.
HOW CAN I USE A BAKED ANIMATION IN INTERACTIVE GAME TIME?
Baked animations can be converted to prefabs to use them in any of your game scenes. For example, it could be a wall that at some point of the game is broken by a tank, a missile reaching a tower, or a car passing over a landmine. If there is a moving object that is replaced by a baked animation (i.e. an exploding car) you will need to disable it and copy its transform to the game object with the baked animation.
IS CARONTEFX ABLE TO RUN PHYSICS SIMULATIONS ON RUNTIME MODE?
No, CaronteFX can only play baked simulations on RUNTIME. Its philosophy is not to run on real-time, but simulate very complex and accurate simulations off line and bake them on external files which will be played later in real-time and on any platform supported by Unity.
IS CARONTEFX IS ABLE TO CHANGE FRAME RATE TO SIMULATE HIGH SPEED CAMERA EFFECTS?
CaronteFX is able to adjust the time step to a very small value and create high FPS animations. If you already created your simulation at a normal frame rate and are looking for a high speed camera effect, there is an option on the player script that allows you to obtain a very similar effect with much less memory cost.
AFTER I FINISH A SIMULATION AND I BAKE IT TO THE HARD DISK HOW CAN I PLAY IT AGAIN?
After finishing a simulation and completing the bake process on your hard disk, Caronte will create a Game Object node in your scene with the geometry and the animation clip. There are two options for playback on this animation, one is to press Play and enter in the Game mode. This will play the Caronte cinematic in loop. The second option is to select the baked object and press the preview option in the inspector menu.
IS CARONTEFX SIMULATION MULTITHREADING?
Yes, CaronteFX will simulate most of the time using multithreading algorithms, there are some parts of the code that for the moment are running on a single thread. We are working on this to make Caronte as parallel as possible. When Caronte is simulating, even on full multithread, you will notice that it always leaves one of the core loads empty, allowing Unity and the OS to keep working fluently and preventing your computer from freezing.
WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS FOR CARONTEFX TO WORK PROPERLY?
This depends of the type of simulation and complexity that you want to simulate. As a minimum, an Intel i5 with at least 4 GB of RAM is recommended. For complex heavy computational simulations, we recommend at least an Intel i7 with at least 8 GB of RAM. CaronteFX is available on Windows and OSX 64 bits operational systems.
IF WE HAVE A NUMBER OF UNITY LICENSES WORKING AT MY COMPANY, DO WE NEED THE SAME NUMBER OF CARONTEFX ASSET LICENSES?
Yes, CaronteFX is an asset whose licenses work per seat, so your company will need the same number of Caronte FX licenses.
HOW CAN I KNOW WHICH CARONTEFX VERSION I AM USING?
Go to the CaronteFX interface and look for a menu called “help” in the top right corner. Once there find the option “About CaronteFX…”
HOW CAN I UPDATE MY CARONTEFX PLUGIN?
We will upload CaronteFX upgrades to the asset store. You can update your project and scene is very easily. First close CaronteFX window and then restart Unity. After doing this, open Unity again and import the latest package version.
WHERE CAN I FIND DOCUMENTATION AND TUTORIALS ABOUT CARONTEFX?
There’s a detailed PDF document (Learn & Support menu) called user guide.
